INFRARED OPTICS

Infrared (IR) radiation is characterized by wavelength ranging from from 760 nm to 1000 μm, it is often divided into three smaller regions: 0.760 - 3μm, 3 - 30μm, and 30 - 1000μm – defined as near-infrared (NIR), mid-infrared (MIR), and far-infrared (FIR), respectively. IR radiation is further sub-divided into four different spectral ranges:

  • Near Infrared range (NIR)

    760 – 900 nm

  • Short-Wave Infrared range (SWIR)

    900 – 2300 nm

  • Mid-Wave Infrared range (MWIR)

    3000 – 5000 nm

  • Long-Wave Infrared range (LWIR)

    8000 – 14000 nm

VISIBLE OPTICS

IR materials have distinct properties that allow them to perform well in the infrared spectrum, they include IR fused silica, germanium, silicon, zinc selenide, zinc sulfide, sapphire, fluorides series, plastics and non-ferrous metals, each has its own unique strengths for infrared applications ranging from the detection of IR signals in thermal imaging to element identification in IR spectroscopy. IR optics fabricated from IR materials are widely used in a variety of fields such as the defense and security industry, machine vision, laser systems, medical devices and more.

Paralight Optics offers high-precision infrared optics fabricated from IR materials, we utilize some of the most modern production equipment on the market today which are strictly temperature and humidity controlled in order to deliver the highest accuracies possible. Custom optics can be made in a variety of IR substrates, sizes, shapes and surface accuracies. Measurements are done for in-process test and final inspection by a wide range of advanced metrology equipment to meet your quality specifications.
